20 Islamist militants were killed in a US drone attack in the northern-western side of Pakistan, as confirmed by the intelligence officials of Pakistan. Primary investigations suggest that the militants were members of the Haqqani network, a powerful insurgent group fighting against US forces in Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan. 14 of the dead were directly linked to the network, whereas, 6 were supportive of the network.

A house close to the town of Miran Shah, which was identified to be a shelter of the militants, was blasted by two missiles. The whereabouts of the attack could not be independently reported because the place is restricted for journalists because of the dangers it possesses for them.

The drone attack is part of US’s plan to bomb al-Qaeda strongholds of Pakistan and this has been the main reason for rising tension between US and Pakistan. The situation has worsened after Obama confirmed his plans of withdrawing forces from Afghanistan.
