Japan’s population fell by a record amount in 2010
The Japanese Government announced that the country’s population has fell by a record amount due to the number of deaths climbing an all time high in 2010 in this quickly aging country. In 2010, a total of 1.19 million deaths have been recorded which is the highest since the Health Ministry of the country began to record these data. In comparison, the number of births was around 1.07 million.
2010 is however not an exception as for the 4th time in a row now, the country’s population has decreased. Ministry also stated that the most common reasons of the death were found to be heart diseases, cancer, stroke etc.
Around 25% of the current population of this Asian country consists of people aging 65 and more. The percentage can go up to 40% in 2050 as feared by the Government. The average age of marriage is also increasing just like other advanced countries. In addition, people are choosing to have fewer children too. 706,000 is the number of registered marriages in Japan in 2010, lowest since 1954.
